I found my wallpaper. Well, I found several versions of it, but some of the wallpaper I like is hand-painted silk wallpaper, notably at Griffin and Wong.
Unfortunately, it’s about 400 USD for a panel that’s the standard 3-foot wide and 10-foot high.
I found Griffin and Wong, by the way, by doing a search for “cheap [...]

“Good Design” was a concept that first appeared in the 1930s and then ushered design through the mid-century. It’s essentially what you think of when you think of mid-century design: Charles and Ray Eames, Hans Wegner, clean lines, interesting new uses of materials.
You can see a great selection at MoMA’s exhibit titled “What Was Good [...]

I vastly prefer wandering around a real, bricks-and-mortar building to look at real furniture, but sometimes doing a little on-line research doesn’t hurt. And I found a very cute-looking, very Chinisoirie-ish cabinet online at Overstock.
I kind of love it, and it’s under $300. But still, “under $300″ means “more than $200.”
Maybe I [...]

How do we measure the passage of time? digital numbers changing, hands on a clock turning, shadow on a sundial?
How about ink spilling forth from a bottle?
Get a load of this “Ink Calendar” by Oscar Diaz. He is really one of the most inventive, interesting designer/artists we’ve encountered lately. He’s in London.
Here is his own [...]

Okay, my first job was to get an old-fashioned wall phone, something I’ve wanted for years, since realizing that each new improvement in telecommunications brings the quality of sound one step closer to that of two orange juice cans and a string. Plus, I wanted to make room on that tiny table—and even if eventually [...]

I’m sick of my front hall. And I know better than to have a lousy front hall. The little I know about Feng Shui includes the idea that the entrance to a home is of utmost importance—another lesson from Feng Shui that also squares with basic design sense and basic good sense.
So. From the front [...]

We just found this very cool interactive color site. You can see how color changes a Van Gogh painting, see how colors interact with each other, and generally learn about how color theory works. http://poynterextra.org/cp/index.html
