"Design-savvy Hospital": an oxymoron?

Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 1:27PM In thinking recently about how important good design is to good health (don't ask for the details) we came across this about the Hospital for Special Surgery, NYC's premier hospital that only does orthopedic surgeries. It's so fabulous that, literally, princesses and other royalty from around the world, not to mention major league sports stars, go there for their knee replacements

So, yeah, the surgeons are cutting-edge (couldn't resist that, sorry) and the nursing staff is terrific. But it's the building design we thought incredible, especially the patient rooms with views of the East River.
It turns out that having a great view to look at really does make all the difference, whether you're in fine fettle or under tremendous sedation for pain. So kudos to HSS for designing a hospital that really proves that "Design-savvy Hospital" isn't an oxymoron after all.

I honestly think that having a great view does make a difference! I visited a nice hospital when i was getting my acls recertification online and it made all the difference in the world. Getting your acls online is not easy but the view helped!
