Back in June, the New York Times ran an ad for local residents looking to redesign their homes on a budget. The idea was to match people with professional designers to help them work within their budget and get the redesign experience they were looking for.
This week, the Times ran their first story in this series about a woman named Sasha Haines-Stiles who was looking to redesign her new loft in Brooklyn. Ms. Haines-Stiles was matched up with Mary L. Chan of Studio Bartelby in Brooklyn.
Ms. Chan worked in conjunction with Ms. Haines-Stiles to transform the loft while the New York Times was there to cover the entire process. To everyone's delight and surprise, the loft was completed by the time Fashion Week rolled around, a goal set out right from the beginning.
Read the New York Times article here for more details about the transformation process. In addition, if you are interested in being a part of this series sponsored by the New York Times, they provide this email address to submit to: onthecheap@nytimes.com.

This was a great project to try out as it gave someone who couldn't afford an interior designer themselves an opportunity to experience something they wouldn't have been able to otherwise sort of like extreme makeover home edition. Could this really be done on a budget of this amount though?
Well said BIlly, I actually enjoy seeing people's home changing fir the best and within their budget. Would be nice if such an initiative could be done again in 2011. Good work.
As an organizer I can appreciate the peacefulness and tranquility that this space exudes! It looks amazing and shows what a little time and creativity can do. Well Done!
