Tiny design

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 12:36PM Perhaps because I have always been big - reaching 5'9" in the 8th grade, much to my chagrin - I have always had a special passion for things that are very small. Miniatures of any kind, including dollhouses and their related accoutrements, fascinate me; the smaller and more articulated, the better.
Like many others, a major highlight of my weekend is perusing the New York Times. The recent article in the Home & Garden section about a small community of miniature modern design-obsessed bloggers was too cool to not share. Christine Ferrara, the force behind Call of the Small, is one outstanding member of that small club who creates magnificent little worlds in the tiniest spaces, and all to scale. They struck me as the perfect outlet for any aspiring designer.

Hi Caroline,
I absolutely love the furniture in your photo. I've been looking for dollhouse furniture like those for a long time. Even put up a question on Facebook without one single reply.
Could you please tell me where one can purchase these furniture?
I'd love to hear back from you.
Cheers
Julia
Hi Julia,
Actually, your question is a great one as the modern dollhouse furniture is truly hard to find! My understanding is that the woman behind this site actually makes many of the pieces by hand. Very labor intensive! I often wondered why it is rare, and have always chalked it up to a mere lack of demand. Perhaps that tide is changing.
Thanks for reading the site!
All the best,
Caroline
