A little world, enclosed

Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 11:31AM Like most people I often find myself spending many hours browsing the internet - many more hours than I should or need to. At a certain point, when I have followed link after link after link, I realize that I am doing more scanning than actual reading.
The upside of scanning design blogs is that occasionally I am stopped dead in my tracks - and when something does that, it always ends up being a true gem. Such was the case with the prisms created by artist Kim Krans for her company The Wild Unknown.
Krans and her mother, Gaynelle Oslund, handcraft each of these glass prisms. In addition to the simple geometric beauty of each piece, I was taken by the few precious items enclosed in the glass: a bit of sand, a feather, a stone...its a little world; a perfectly curated tiny experience.
The Wild Unknown also makes custom prisms for special occasions such as weddings. Without compromising the aesthetic, Krans can add a simple scroll with information such as names or a date. A wedding prism would be a beautiful gift, centerpiece addition, or decor object for the escort card or guest book table.
Krans also makes beautiful monthly and annual calendars, each of which stands alone - like the prism - as an incredible art piece.

When you have the time, I truly suggest a visit to The Wild Unknown.

But isn't the World Wide Web a own World itself aswell?
Im spending most of my time crawling trough blogs and i have to say that the most and best informations are mostly in english (btw greetings from germany) and every blog is placing his links and topics all over the web. But if you look more detailed you see, that nearly every blog itself is a own world again, because it's a place where you fill your own opportunity without any response (if you don't watch at the comments, thats like a try to come in this world. ;-) ).
Nice article, nice images. :)
