Start Me Up! Action-packed double-header
Wedding Belle
Monday, June 21, 2010 at 11:02AM I came, I saw, I conquered.
To kick off the weekend, Friday night consisted of two wedding rehearsals, in towns almost two hours apart. Both weddings had very small bridal parties so that made life a little bit easier. Regardless, it was a lot of work on a warm Friday evening – and I knew it was just the beginning.
Saturday morning I sprung out of bed, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to conquer all! I had dispatched my team to various parts of town to prepare for the festivities to come, while I headed to the church to set up for the ceremony. Things ran fairly smoothly I suppose; the church caretaker was 30 minutes late to let me in for set-up, the bride had ran a race that morning (against my advisement) and she ended up arriving 45 minutes late for her hair appointment. We had no choice but to start the ceremony late, but it was a bit shorter than expected so we made up the time.
We then had post-ceremony pictures to take inside the church – no worries at all until the bride noticed a few pale pink marks on her dress. They were barely noticeable to the naked eye but of course to her they were catastrophically glaring marks. As a bride on your wedding day, you are concerned about looking your best and as close to perfect as possible, which can sometimes cloud judgment and the perception of reality. This is all very common and expected, so please do not make your brides feel crazy – even if they are acting it. They have a LOT going on.
After we calmed her down, I dove into my trusty bridal emergency kit and emerged with an arsenal of products designed to clean and/or mask the tiny imperfections. As I dabbed away I imparted calming words of wisdom, reality and understanding to my beautiful bride. Within 15 minutes all was well and although we were behind schedule on our photos, the important thing is that we emerged unscathed.
On the way to the reception we encountered tons of traffic and unexpected bridge detours, but we somehow made it on time. I can happily say the rest of the evening proceeded without interruption, for the most part. One down and one to go…
Sunday morning I was a wee bit slower to rise, but was very much looking forward to this day. I had been working with today’s bride for months and she was such a dear and honestly, she needed a lot of help!! As I was prepping to leave the house I received a frantic call – her bakery had terrifically muddled her entire dessert order and we were left with a few random selections. Instead of doing a standard wedding cake, the plan was to do a variety of pies and mini cakes, providing guests with lovely assortment of delectables to sample. It turns out they only had four of the nine pies she had requested. It was an all-out pastry hunt through the city, but between my staff and her family, we pulled together a stunning and delicious dessert table!
This wedding and ceremony were to take place in a super cool and modern furnished loft that is often used for photo shoots - such a pretty backdrop for a simple and sweet affair. The bride’s friends did all the event flowers (beautiful!!). A friend of a friend was the DJ for the reception and we contracted a wonderful cellist and guitarist for the ceremony music. It was a casual, sophisticated and fun Sunday brunch wedding. If you or a client are looking for something fresh and different that is a little easier on the wallet, I highly recommend this format.
Last night I was more exhausted than I have been in a long, long time. Double-header wedding weekends are no easy feat, yet I can honestly say I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
xx,
Belle
