A Visit to Lily Manor

This past weekend I had the honor of attending the wedding of dear friends in rural Mifflintown, Pennsylvania. The address of the venue was literally on Route 35, which told me right away that this reception was going to be somewhat rustic.

Once we arrived, however, I was surprised by what was actually a genteel, exquisitely restored, and beautifully appointed historic home. The sprawling Adam-style manse and gardens date to 1794, and served as the main estate of a 200-acre working farm. At some point, it was converted to a summer home (if such a vast property could really be called such) and it now operates as an event venue called Lily Manor.



Lily Manor's owner Olga and her husband Joe have painstakingly restored the house while updating services, and the result is a perfect mix of antique and modern. The most recent design decision had Olga painting several of the grand spaces downstairs in a slightly metallic dark pewter. It was a bold decision for a summer re-do, but the dark walls make the white columns and trim pop and the incredible wood floors shine.

Outside, the original farmland in the backyard and across the road form a picture-perfect backdrop to the stately home.

Enjoy a little tour of this amazing property, and be sure to take note of Olga's beautiful use of toile and silk fabrics, symmetrical accessory styling, and brilliant use of color.
